Job Description
The Regional Transportation Manager is responsible for oversight of freight and transportation operations in a multistate geographic division. This oversight includes all terminals, carrier performance, personnel, asset utilization, regulatory compliance, safety, cost controls, and communication with the Director of Transportation and Regional Fleet Managers. Collaborating with peers, superiors, and cross-functional partners to establish and implement company standards, policies, and best safety practices is also expected.
Key responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
•Model safe practices and engage team to own a safety culture that focuses on prevention through personal responsibility, peer accountability, and, when necessary, immediate and thorough incident response.
•Provides regional oversight of driver safety, accident investigations, and training
•Business Owner for national strategic initiatives that functionalize transportation duties while driving organizational efficiency
•Collaborate cross-functionally with division sales, operations, production, and supply chain departments to ensure teams are working together toward the common goal of customer service while prioritizing deliveries.
•Improve interdepartmental communication by engaging with other departments to further understanding of cross-functional objectives and needs.
•Deliver financial objectives by maximizing productivity through IBT optimization (Driver/Tractor Utilization), 3PL / Dedicated Carrier management, and partnership with the operations, sales, and supply chain departments that delivers premium service to all Primo customers.
•Manages the implementation and performance of Dedicated Transportation fleets.
•Effectively use data to identify opportunity areas and lead team to develop sustainable process controls, productivity initiatives, and gap closure action plans to continuously improve performance without impacting excellence in customer service, quality control, or profitability.
•Responsible for transportation operations activity (inbound and outbound) for all plants, co-packers and warehouses, sales within the Division.
•Responsible for on time delivery for inter branch transfers, customer deliveries, inbound materials and outbound materials.
•Develop and maintain transportation procedures to minimize costs while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
•Participate in annual budget, preparation of carrier bid package and carrier meetings.
•Develop, track and communicate carrier performance within the Division
•Lead implementation of nationwide transportation strategies that align with broad company priorities and business plans.
•Prepare for transportation national WOR (Weekly Ops Review) and facilitate division weekly performance KBIs with actions to close any gaps or opportunity areas.
•Prepare for and facilitate period business reviews with team to evaluate division performance and identify and address opportunity areas.
•Prepare for and participate in communicating to senior leadership division performance and action plans to close gaps.
•Through hiring practices, professional development, and leadership, grow the team’s technical competence and business acumen and reduce turnover.
•Use formal, documented individual development plans with SMART goals and action plans and provide meaningful feedback to develop supervisors, coordinators, and mechanics that embrace change and are agile and adaptable in meeting customer and business needs.
Qualifications
Key qualifications include:
•Bachelor’s degree is preferred, not required
•Transportation experience in a large enterprise company with its own Fleet and supervision and/or management.
•Proven leadership in influencing and motivating remote teams.
•Driver qualified to perform safety checkpoints with drivers preferred.
•Strong analytical skill set, proven effectiveness in reporting
•Experience with Drive-Cam.
•Experience with leading organizational transformation; demonstrated knowledge and use of change management methods and practices
•Advanced level of competency in computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office
•Experience in financial planning and analysis
•Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership skills
•Ability and willingness to commit to a significant amount of travel in and around region, as needed
